Is there such a thing as too much filtration?
I have a 200 liter aquarium with external filter housing, a reverse flow under the filter gravel, and a 9W UV sterilizer? I heard the UV sterilizer can do more harm than good, and UG filters are not updated.
Only if it is established current in the tank so that the depth of the fish swim against it. While this is not the case, additional filters may be excessive, but nothing bad habit. UG filters are a bit 'Old School', but still behave as they did in the old days. A reverse flow system does not present serious problems and there is no reason not to use one. But the container is probably doing 90% of the work and the UG is only a useful backup. UV Sterilizers are debatable, I only run if it is to combat a problem with cloudy water. You do not need a race in a normally and properly stocked tank cycle, but should not harm fish. Ian
