100 gallon tank stand design?
i need to build a stand for a 100 gallon fish tank i was hoping someone would know where i could get the desighn for that for free the tank measures 24 and 7/16 inches wide and 48 and 7/16 inches long
or at least what would be the best wood to hold up the weight for something that heavy
I would consider making the tank stand out of 1.5″ angle iron, and weld the stand together.
Your tank fully filled will weigh 833 pds, 1 gallon of water weights 8.33 pds.
Depending on your design you are going to have to really cross brace this thing so that it does not twist with that much weight on it.
You could wrap your stand in a wooden frame, just to make it look presentable.
As far as a free design, my best advice for you would be to go to a pet shop and see if they have any ideas.
But, I believe that you will wind up designing your own stand for this tank.
Whatever, you do bear in mind the weight of the water, the height of the tank off of the floor, this is critical, the higher you go the more cross bracing to keep it from twisting when fully loaded.
Also remember that you will need a pump to pump the tank out with to clean it.
You might also go on the internet and see if there are some designs you can look over.
You next problem might be the floor supports under where you are going to put this amount of weight if it is in a second floor room, or a first floor room with a basement under it consider the fact that your legs are bearing down on a very small portion of that floor.
You are going to have to put like a 6″ sq. piece of plate under each leg, and then put a 2 by 6 to span at least four or five of the floor joists to distribute your weight across a larger area.
Of course if it is in the basement , no problem.
Lots to think about, but, weight is the main problem you don’t want 800 gallons of water in your house, it does make a mess.
