How To Hook Up A Fish Tank Air Pump help!?
So I got a 20 galon fishtank, and it came with something called an air pump. its not the filter, its parts include:
Long green tube , pool noodle material, with a cap on one end and a cap with an open spout on the other. it suctions to the side of the tank i guess.
A long tube
A motor of some sorts
A small clear cylinder ith a red “arrow head” inside, and an open spout on each end.
So my thoughts are that you just attach the tube to the moter, and to the green tube. but i don’t understand how the small plastic thing fits in to the scene. and does the air come out of the green foam tube, from the sides or something? if i attach the tube to the spout, then the other side is capped, ( which i can remove, but it looks as it should be there ). anyone? helpz?

A picture would really help, of course, but let me try my best -
The most basic airpump setup is –
(a) a pump,
(b) an air intake (that needs to be in the air)
(c) tubing to take the air from the pump to the output part
(d) and an output part
Pumps are of two types – submersed and non-submersed. Non-submersed are cheaper and need to be outside the water – either mounted on the top of the tank or kept outside the tank. A non-submersed tank often doesn’t need part (b) i.e. the intake, as the pump is just sucking air in directly.
The air output part (d) is usually an airstone – either something that’s heavy and can sink or something that looks like this – http://e-aquarium.com.au/images/Bar_Aquarium_Air_Stone.JPG or http://lab.melodolic.com/Articles/EtchTank/airstone_retainer.jpg (which is what you might have) or an ornament from which bubbles percolate in the tank.
Sometimes these parts are manufactured separately, and have different bore sizes. To match them, you’ll get one or more adapter parts that plug into one component on one end and a different one on the others.
Okay, so my best guess on what your situation could be -
Air output part (air coming out of the walls through minute pores) –> “Long green tube , pool noodle material, with a cap on one end and a cap with an open spout on the other. it suctions to the side of the tank i guess.”
Tubing –> “A long tube”
Non-submersible air pump –> “A motor of some sorts”
Adapter –> “A small clear cylinder ith a red “arrow head” inside, and an open spout on each end.”
