Aquarium Lighting & Q about goldfish?
I just got a little aquarium kit for my children. Kit comes with filtration system and lighting. It now has two gold fish on an inch long. # 1 Q – Is light all the time? During the day you turn it off because there is no lots of natural sunlight entering the room, not directly hit the aquarium, but at night when we go to sleep, it becomes almost pitch black in the room – What need of enlightenment? Q # 2. My goldfish is acting weird. They swim vertically to the surface of the water and open his mouth as if searching for air. They do this for a long time, I thought they only need food, but when I fish meal suck it up and exhale the air immediately. Eventually they would go out and swim as usual. Is this normal? So far its been four days and the fish are still alive. Thanks! Not sure if I can go back to the fish. Probably going to find a more large tank, and remember to keep it away from sunlight.
1. Lighting is not necessary unless you have plants. Maintain it for long periods time will encourage algae growth. 2. Your goldfish drown because the tank is too small, not a cycle. Their waste accumulates and poisons them. Sincerely, return the goldfish. Goldfish produce a lot of waste and grow quite large, they are not good starter fish, especially if you have not done any research on their care. I would not recommend a single goldfish for anything less than 20 gallons. Determine the volume of your tank so you can actions correctly.
