Unilateral large aquarium in a wall?
I'm building a new home and want to put a tank in 100gallon existing 72 "x24" x15 "hole / Script on the wall. I am looking for advice and guidance in the placement of the tank. I am green when it comes to aquariums, I've been reading a lot recently about aquariums and I saw some gray areas of the facility: • in the tank wall is in a script, which means that only one side will be exposed • I would like have a bulky body that surrounds it (the house is 300 years old – I am very particular when it comes to style) – the top flap is horizontal just do? • I do not have a cabinet for all filters, etc.. they will all fit in the hole 4 "rear horizontal top cap? • Cleaning can be a problem? The place has direct sunlight, but very well lit. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm not a structural architect, but I can give you some advice. You want to be sure that the floor / format can support the weight, especially if there is space below it. The weight of water about 8.3 pounds / gallon, plus the weight of the tank, gravel, decoration and equipment. An architect / structural engineer will be better able to determine this. You can distribute the weight better by having the length of the aquarium perpendicular to the floor joists. Is this design is intended to be only a "framed" aquarium (photo: 209b.jpg http://www.aquariummd.com/Office%) or unit extends to the ground? If framed, I think this will create some headaches cleaning – most of this style tanks are designed to back or side. You will need enough space for the recessed lighting above the tank that still gives you access to the filter tank to eliminate if you are planning to use a wing in the filter feeding – have to remove the filter pads, and the absorption tube periodically for cleaning. Scrubbers and networks to get to the bottom of the tank can be quite long handles. For tank size (and dimensions if it is a custom unit) you may want to consider wing in two filters, one at each end of the tank. Will electrical circuits for filters, heaters, lighting, Powerheads, etc. back wall above the tank (and filters) would be easier and a Coke. If on the floor, you can use a can filter or sink below the main tank – with a built-in look Cabinet doors can use dual cabinets below the tank to filter access, maybe include a few drawers or shelves for food, supplies to be hidden.
