Better to have your water, your fish store will have some kits to help determine if the water is "bad" for your plants. Is buying the right kinds of plants (salt water vs. fresh water)? Do you have enough Co2 to support plants? I have a friend who uses CO2 in the water instead of O2, plants emit O2, and no problems with the fish.
