Fish tank water is cloudy and smells like a swimming pool?
I’ve just set up a new fish tank 140Litre and have washed gravel, added water, added Prime water conditioner and started running the filter. It has been going for 24 hours and the water is still quite cloudy and has the smell of a swimming pool, even though i dechlorinated with Prime. Please help!!!!
I want to ensure conditions are perfect before adding fish.
This is a brand new tank that has never had fish in it.
Ok here is what you do, as you dont want to add fish yet !!!, So firstly you need to make sure that the water is chlorine Free !, depending on the water ager you used i think the ratio was 20ml per 5 litres i would not worry about putting to much in at the moment. Next to clean up the water i would buy some Magic clear or crystal clear from a pet store or try http://buyapet.com.au im sure there is some on there for sale. but anyway what magic clear does is binds all the particals in the water together so that the filter can easily pick this up. i would add that + i would change my filter sponge every 5 hours over the next 2 days. > Once your confident your tak is clean and chemical free i would ad Live bacteria, i think there is a product called Bio booster, add that to the tank this will kick start the filter biological bacteria system that will help start the natural heeling process for your fish to swim in. i would add a couple pinches of rock salt, this helps keep the water fresh, dont ad more then that, and no more untill you do water changes.
