Is there a way to completely get rid of ramshorn snails in my fish tank without killing my apple snails?
I ad hundreds if not thousands of red ramshorns, i have scrubbed the tank, bought new stones and boiled all the fake plants and ornaments, i even very carefully wiped the apple snails in case any eggs had been laid on them.
i thought i had got rid of them all but tonight i spotted 2 small ones in the tank, i have removed them but it will be too late can someone please help before i have loads of them again
A good way to catch ones that may be hidden: Use a rock to keep a leaf of lettuce at the bottom of the tank. Leave it over night and in the morning it should have attracted lots of snails. Simply remove the lettuce with all the snails attached to it. Since you have apple snails, you may want to use a sizable leaf depending on how many you have.
The only way I was truely able to rid myself of the same problem, though, was when I moved to a larger tank and soaked any items I re-used in VERY hot water… I didn’t re-use the gravel.
Also, if you are able to remove all other living things from the tank, even temporarily, they would starve to death once there was nothing left to eat…
I tried dwarf puffers, but they started eating away at the other fish once they ran out of snails to eat… My Angelfish’s fins never grew back properly…
Good luck!
