fish tank vacuum
gravel vacuum for fish tank?

How do i use it? it’s one of those things where you fully submerge it and then jerk it up and down to get water moving, but do you have to constantly keep jerking up and down to get anything to suck up? because all im getting is water/

I think you’re referring to a ‘diatom’ filter. I used to use them on my 55 gallon tanks. It is a day-long process. If you are using this on a small (20 gallons and under), it’s not worth the time you will be putting into it. However, once you have removed all the fish and decorations inside, stir up your gravel with your hand while the pump is operating. The water will become very cloudy, and that’s OK. Let the filter just run for a couple hours and repeat that process. Like I said, it takes all day to clean it properly. You might want to consider looking into an under-gravel filtering system. They aren’t outrageous in price and they work constantly. Even using those it is good to clean your gravel once a year with a diatom.

If this is a ‘vacuum’ type filter, you need to use like you would a vacuum – scrubbing’ the gravel. I like the diatoms the best cuz you can basically just let it do the work for you aside from stirring up the gravel occasionally.
Good Luck! And Happy Holidays!
