New 32 gallon fish tank! Water test please help me!?
New 32 gallon fish tank, cycled it for a couple weeks, got 3 dwarf neon rainbows and 2 plants. 10 days after i bought the rainbows i just did a water test with my testing kit.
THE RESULTS:
Amonia= 0
Nitrite=between 0.1 to 0.3
NitrAte=5 and divided by 4.4 for the nitrogen=1.13636
Ph=7.5
my real question i guess is can i get the rest of my fish yet? getting 6 clown loaches and 3 or 4 rainbow sharks
i have already talked to multiple aquarium stores and they say it will be fine with my fish but as for the levels i wasn’t sure, but isnt it safe for my nitrite to be at 0.3 its not deadly how much longer should this cycle take then?
pH for a tropical freshwater fishtank should be 7.0-7.1. Typically new aquariums will even themselves out in 1 month (for a new tank), you didn’t specify if it was new or not. If you go to Petsmart and take a water sample they should be able to tell you what to do and point you into the right direction. There are chemicals you can put in the water like API pH Down or powder to set your pH to the correct level, as well as those to correct nitrate and nitrite. If you do get chemicals take your filter out for an hour or so so the chemicals arent automatically filtered out before the job is done. Water changes (10% weekly, 25% monthly) should help with the nitrate, nitrate, and ammonia (those are all connected, mostly through the amount of fish waste in the water, high waste = high levels). I would just keep doing water changes and if it doesn’t fix itself within a couple weeks go for the chemicals.
