Why isn’t my algae eater eating all of the algae?
I have a 29 gallon fish tank with 11 fish in it. After a few weeks, I started to see some algae build-up so I went out and got a Plecostomus about 3in long. Anyway, ever since I got him, he hasn’t been doing his job very well. He spends all of his time sucking away at the algae inside a small shipwreck at the bottom of the tank. He rarely leaves it and when he does, he goes back in a few minutes later. He’s not sick because he’s always eating in there. Now it’s starting to build-up a lot on the glass and the plants and he doesn’t seem to care. I don’t think it’s a good idea to have two in there unless if anybody recommends it. What can I do?
Take the small shipwreck out of the tank! He obviously has chosen that as his favorite restaurant, so by taking it out it might force him to get all the algae on the sides of the tank. (you can always put the shipwreck back again) It’s ok to have 2 pleco’s in one tank, I have done it and it was fine. Pleco’s grow though, so you will eventually have to house them in an even bigger tank!
P.S. I hope your tank is heated and that you are using florescent lights, not incandescent!
