what equipment will i need to keep a snake??? i already have ……?
i want to get a snake i really want a ball python but unfortunetly all pythons and boas are illegal here in NYC
so im thinking about corn snake milk snake/king snake
i have a 29 gallon tank right now im using it as a quarantine tank for my fish but im going ot put the ifhs in the main tank at the end of april
now i had a water dragon before so i have a heat lamp water bowl and screen cover
what else will i need?? a heat mat or heat rock ?? also will the heat mat or rock be plugged in all the time?? wont it overheat the tank ???
also one more thing do those snakes( corn milk or king ) bite ??? this is what im worried about i have a 4 year old rabbit shes out of her cage most of the time and im worried that if i will hold the snake the snake will bite cause it will smell the scent of her on my hands/arms or clothes
also could you give me an approx. price for the equipment that i will be needing
Just relax for a minute and take a breath. If it were me, I’d go with a king snake. They are really cool snakes and come in a variety of colors to choose from. It’s good that you have a heat lamp because that’s all you’ll need. Heat mats and rocks are not necessary for snake enclosures because they can cause some unsightly burns.
As for the biting, all young snakes bite. It’s their main defense. But no need to worry about it, with gentle and frequent handling, handling them will be a pleasure. As for the rabbit scent, none of those snakes get even remotely close to being able to eat a rabbit so you don’t have anything to worry about there. To be safe, just wash your hands before and after you handle your snake.
You don’t really need anything else for the tank. You have the basics, water dish/heat lamp/top. You can put extra decoration in but that’s completely up to you.
