Easy maths question, can you solve it?
James was given an old fish tank by his grandfather. He wants to cover the glass sides of the tank with seaweed poster paper. Calculate the area of poster paper James will need if the tank is 1.3m long, 52cm wide and 410mm high.
Well, he wants to find the are of the faces of the sides first, and it is a rectangle, so it has four sides, and every side is equal with the one across from it.
So, just calculate the faces… lenth x width
Also, make sure to convert all of your numbers to a common unit… so either everything to meters, centimeters, or mm (meters or cm will be easiest… I use meters).
410 mm = .41m
52cm = .52m
(1.3m) x (.41m)= .533m^2
(.52m) x (.41m)= .2132m^2
So now you have two sides, each with a side equal to it so multiply both numbers by two and then add… now you have the surface area of the whole tank. This is how much paper you will need.
(.533m) x 2 = 1.066m^2
(.2132m) x 2= +.4264m^2

1.4924m^2
Just to point out an error in another answer so you aren’t confused, the reason that Gailey’s answer is incorrect is because you are doing surface area of the faces of the tank, not volume (total area of the tank).
