is my fish tank routine okay?
my filter stays running 24 hours except for when I feed the fish and when I clean the filter and during water changes when the level gets too low for the tube to suck up water
I turn my bubbler on at 7AM after feeding the fish, I only turn it off when I feed the fish or when I’m cleaning the rock it’s in. I shut it off at 10PM because if I don’t the fish go crazy and I can’t sleep with it on
I constructed my own light system, it consists of a bright flashlight being hung from a box up high, my idea is that this system is better than most hood lights because in mine half the tank is unlit so if the fish are bothered by the light they can swim away from it. I turn the light on at 7 or 8PM and I shut it off at 10PM
I feed the fish flake food at 7AM and at 9PM and I feed them pellets at about 3PM
Your feeding to much. It isn’t necessary to feed your fish 2 or 3 times a day. Once is plenty. The biggest mistake that most people make is over feeding. It leads to poor water conditions, and the bulk of illnesses can be traced to water conditions. There is no reason to turn your filter off during feeding, and in fact I wouldn’t recommend it because you could forget to turn it back on. As far as a bubbler, they really serve no purpose in an aquarium except for the enjoyment of the aquarist. All the oxygen that your tank needs will be acquired through the surface film, and live plants if you have them. The bubbles pass through the water too quickly to do much good in that regard. Of course they don’t hurt anything, either. You really should do something better for lighting than a flashlight. It would be best if you had full spectrum lighting, to promote vitamin D production. You also will start to have a brown algae problem with improper lighting and that isn’t a problem that you will enjoy.
