Regarding my ten gallon tank?
I bought a ten gallon tank for my children who have been asking for fish since the day they were born! ha ha I also like fish! Well I know nothing about them and the fish place I went through were very unhelpful. I bought a complete kit, the tank and the filter. I also purchased a heater to keep the water at the right temp. I let the tank run for 48hours before getting fish. Well I purchased 2 platies 1 sucker fish and 1 black phantom tetra and 2 pictus catfish. I was told by the employee that they all get along and I will have no problems. Is this true? My tank has been up for 5 days and I notice the water is a little merkey already? I am new at this and was hoping the store and employees would offer assistants but I feel I am learning more online then from them. I will not mention the store but will never go back or recommend them! Tell me anything you know that may help me! I want to be a good fish owner!
The water is mirky, because it is cycling. You shouldn’t have gotte the fish so quich and you should have added them slower. I am not yelling at you! Please do not thing that. Tetras like groups. They should have at least 4. It depends on the sucker fish. Plecos get too big for a 10 gallon and Chinese suckerfish get aggressive. You should probably be okay. I don’t know about pictus catfish. I don’t think they are aggressive. I have heard of male platies getting aggressive. Make sure you have lots of hiding places. Little plant pots can be used as caves. Live plants are better than fake. Live plants give off oxygen and also help nitrates. It is good to fast you fish once a week or two weeks. Do a water change once a week, but take out 25% of the water. Do not clean you whole tank out at once. It is good to get a gravel vaccum. They are not very expensive. Also, you should monitor your:
