driftwood problem for my fish tank!?
ok i found some amazing pieces of driftwood in my lake today! they are kind of slimey becuase of the algae in the lake. the piece is to big to boil on the stove or heat in the oven. im trying to figure out what i can do to cure this piece of driftwood and to clean off the algae on it! can you please help me if you know what you are talking about becuase i need some more for my fish tank and i dont want to pay a ton of money to buy it. so my final question is how to make it safe for my fish and how to make it look amazing! =)
go hose it down outside.
becareful though as every microorganism in that wood (billions of them) need to be killed before it goes in your tank.
then you have the problem of the ammonia spike when all the dead things in the wood rot out when you put it back in the water.
you may save money but your going to pay with your time beleive me.
throw it in someones pool for a couple days to kill it then soak it in water water with conditioner for a week or 2 changing the water every 3 days and keep a garbage bag over it so no more algea grows.
this is the kinda of crazy road your going to have to go down.
good luck!!!!
