how to make fish tank plant food?
I have various plants in my aquariums, and not all of them are flourishing like they can be. i use flourescent lighting and the right substrate and plant food store bought.
Im wondering if you can literally make a plant food and i got this from a site that took it off the “CO2 reactor”
Basically you mix in a zip loc bag the following things:
Baked beans (not fried)
Chick peas
Cheerios
(the above 3 are for iron)
Banana
Raisins
(above two for potassium)
some sort of grain (like cereal)
(this one is for calcium)
NEXT: you add some sugar and yeast in the bag and add only a little bit of water and mix everything up. You remove most of the air so the bag sinks. You make a tiny hole in bag only enough so the stuff doesnt come out.
You put this under a decoration, or bury it.
Could this POSSIBLY work?
In theory this would supply a large amount of nutrients to the plants as the ingredients decompose, however the results are less controllable than if you used a commercial liquid fertilizer, and believe it or not you would actually get far better results with the latter method.
The yeast and sugar are designed to produce CO2 as they ferment, however I’d recommend using these in a separate reaction chamber outside the aquarium.
Au contraire to the last part of Rob E’s answer, large amounts of oxygen and water movement should generally be avoided, as both will drive off essential CO2.
