I got a gold fish! I need help with it?

Okay so I don’t have a good name for him ( let’s call it him ) yet, so any suggestions would be fine.
What should I feed it? my dad has a Huge Saltwater Fish Tank in our basement, so we have fish food and stuff. I looked through our huge collection of it and found fish food that was for both salt and fresh water fish. He ate it up really really fast. Is that a good or bad sign? He also won’t come up from the bottom of the bowl. he swims around the edge and occasionally peeks up. My dad said he was just scared, and I just got him at 9 o’clock this morning.
Also, what should I put in his tank? I’m buying some fish pebbles but do I need any plants or do you have any suggestions for plants?

You need to feed it goldfish flakes. Not tropical fish food.
If you just put the fish in the tank, he could just need to get used to it.
But, if you put him in there. . the wrong way. He may be in shock from a major temperature change.
Goldfish like a planted tank, I suggest you get him some plants, fake or real, it doesn’t matter.
And, as for fish pebles, I suggest you get gravel, some pebels will higher certain things in your water, and possibly kill the fish. If you do get pebels make sure they are alright by putting them in sulphoric acid, if they bubble don’t put them in. : ]
