Building a 55 gallon fish tank. What thickness glass should I use?
I am currently building a fish tank. It will hold aprox. 55 gallons of water. What glass thickness should I use to ensure that it will not collapse under the water pressure?
8mm should be fine. You could use 10, but thats going to cost you a lot extra.
I wanted to do this, but had a long chat with a guy at a glass shop; he told me that, if you take all the effort and leaks (it’s your first time, there are bound to be some leaks) into consideration, it’s a lot cheaper to buy yourself a professionally made tank that could even tlast twice as long as your home made one. The tanks you buy are, in most cases, cheaper than building one anyway.
