Is it normal for my aquarium filter to be dirty so fast?
I have a 10 gallon tank with 4 goldfish and a small ryukin Plecostomus catfish. Tank gravel, artificial plants and two external wing in the filter. The filter is good for 10-20g tanks. I bought and installed it last Friday and I checked the cartridge filter to see yesterday that its already black. Is this normal? I did remove and rinse, but I want to know if this is black after just one week. Now I've learned that my tank is too small for these fish, what fish would be good to keep in a 10 gallon tank?
gray cat is right … What preforms weekly water changes? if not, just take a sample of your water to a pet store to get tested and see what you're doing to your fish. you are more stocked. the tank would be fully stocked with ryukin ONE and nothing else. ryukins get 6 "to 8" (yes, they are a small fantasies long, but they make up in height). producing one tonne of waste like any other goldfish. you need the goldfish 10gallons AT LEAST. Plecos get more than 18 "and produce one ton of waste, needs at least a 50gallon tank for one of these. Please rehome or return fish to keep most of them. if you keep killing things how they are now. once you have received a sample of your water to one side, do a water change of 30%. I would suggest another change of 30% water tomorrow. and then 10% water changes every day until you find a new place for 4 goldfish and pleco. and next time, do the research BEFORE you get ANYTHING living. ——- Sent the list of good fish, be sure to do some research on them first!
