The fish were reared in homes to eat. This is common practice since 1800. Understandably, homes in coastal areas had easy access to a variety of fish and home aquariums were quite popular in these areas. Today fish are more than pets that are lovingly tended. Aquariums in homes carefully monitor the growth of the fish that provide entertainment to the people.
