What type of generator to get for my 55 gallon aquarium?
We have at least 3 power outages in my area during the summer months and probably should consider getting a generator. What is the minimum power needed or anything else you can recommend for a 55 gallon tank. I want to keep the filter and aeration is running in the summer. i dont have the heater on during the summer, so not a problem. little or no power cuts in winter.
A small generator would do the trick, however, the cheap reality are not "accurate" energy production is variable, rather than simple appliances, but capable of harmful electronic material. The way to determine the power requirement is to add all the watts required by the system. This is in Underwriters Laboratory labels on various items. It's a good idea to double or triple the power to allow "increased demand. I think you'll find that almost none of the available generators exceed your needs. This brings up the possibility of a generator to run the whole house during a power cut, the formula is the same, add the requirements and add a "factor" to cover surges. It gets more complicated if you go this way, rules energy company, etc. But it may be comforting to know that your freezer will not have to be dumped after a long break.
