aquarium substrate cichlid
How to create an African cichlid tank about 100 gallons?

I'm wanting to create a large African cichlid tank, and have found some basic information but would like other opinions, such as substrate? pH levels? filtration? live plants or fake? aeration? temperature? overcrowding? Does it matter Rift Lake species originate in your? Is it necessary to harden the water, and if so what is the best way I? Should I enter all the fish on one or small groups? Cycle of fish, ammonia, or Bio Spira? Thanks for the help you can offer!

Rule # 1 with African cichlids (or any cichlids): Do not generalize them! Most of your questions about water, overcrowding, storage, decoration – depends what kind of African setting you want! Continue reading for more information. Substrate: I use beach sand base (sold in bags, boxes sand). Sand or fine gravel is best because it allows the fish to excavate (a natural behavior of bottom dwelling types) and keeps the tank clean by not allowing all waste to sink and be forgotten. PH: for Lake Malawi and Victoria, 7.5-8.5. Tanganyika is better to over 8.0. Most species are very adaptable, but at least neutral, no acid. One poster mentioned "if the water is at least 425 … The harsh environment in Lake Malawi is actually closer to 100. Alkaline Tanganyika is much more difficult and more of the other lakes. Filtration: Many. It can handle the flow and can be messy. To tell what type of filter to buy is silly, depending on your budget and preference – just make sure that more than one filter tank, unless you want to go with a more limited configuration Tanganyika. I do not recommend undergravel filters for most of these fish – if you dig, and many do, is exposed to the filter plates and make the plants useless.: No need to plant at all. They tend to destroy the plants and really can only be maintained with hard, thick leaves, as annubias. It is false, but the plants are generally for you and not the fish – Lakes Rift contain very, very little acreage, and most are residents of the types of rock or open water dwellers. More important is the rockscaping – Types of lake Rift use stones as more security and depending on what type you end up with a lot depends on how you rock landscape of the aquarium. Aeration: Ready for filtration addresses this – If you may not have sufficient filtering. The pressurized air does not hurt if you wish. Temperature: About 76-78 is good, over 80 is excessive. Many Africans Malawi can handle very high temperatures that would kill many Tanganyika. overcrowding? Does it matter which lake?: Some can be overloaded, some is due to overload, some is due to overload, some can not be overloaded. This is the problem. African cichlids are widespread and too often this is not a good thing to do. They range in mild to hostile aggression. They range in size from less than an inch to two feet long. They range in the diet of carnivore to herbivore, improvement habits of colony monogamous harem breeders. Some do well in the crowd, others need a lot of territory to call their own. Are you Mbuna talking about? Haplochromines? Aulonocara? The people of Tanganyika rock? The inhabitants of deep water? Residents of open water? Residents of open sand? Residents Shell? What are you looking out of this tank? What are your expectations. Tell me what you want the tank to be like when we speak of "Africans" and I can help you choose the right rate to achieve that goal. For the success of these fish must choose a lake and stick with it. You must learn about the fish in this lake and what is compatible, and it's safe to assume that not until they learn differently. Are best kept with groups? pairs? Alone? It is the species best mix with others of their kind? As the only species of this kind? It depends. If you go to the store and random values in your tank (or base their purchases on what they say) you are spends a lot of money to replace the fish. If you do a complete cycle with arid a good amount of ammonia that can store all the time – if you have the budget This is highly recommended for the fish all start on the same footing … to UM. If you do a dry cycle and then proceed only add a couple of fish as mentioend above, then all their efforts to create a large colony of healthy bacteria were for nothing when the bacteria die until only enough to keep the few fish. If the cycle with the fish as they do in small groups to avoid toxic peak. If you learn how to seed a tank with live bacteria (real bacteria is much better than bottled water) is can add more fish immediately, even without a dry cycle. Is it necessary to harden the water? Perhaps, what is your water? The best method? I of rockscape my tank with limestone. Some use as crushed coral substrate or in the filter. Some use some or all of aquarium salt, Epsom salt, and baking soda, that helps with the pH, GH and KH for good balance. Others prefer to spend much money on manufactured goods as "caps Rift Lake Kent. There are many ways to do this is best in terms of its water and preferences. WWW.CICHLID-FORUM.COM. I'm not advertising for this site, which I highly recommend going there before buying any thing, and read read read! It is a great source of reliable information and of cichlids. It has existed for a long time and I spent months researching before my first tank real cichlid, and I'm glad I did because I was unable to make all the hundreds of mistakes beginners make jumping on it with a complete lack of understanding of these fish. Only one other poster mentioned above really how can there be a difference in decisions based on values whaty ou, showing this misuderstanding is very common. choose any type of African cichlid above and you could probably write, or find you, that information only in single exceeds the length of this long-winded post. Good luck.
