Is it a good idea to add salt to a tropical aquarium tank community to help the fish?
I have a silver dollar tetras partner, some gouramis, a pleco, and some other small fish community in my tank. I heard it's a good idea to add salt in the aquarium to help the fish. But I heard some bad things about adding salt to an aquarium. I do not know whether to add salt or not. What are your ideas, I must do or not?
Salt to actually have more bad than good. Adding salt to a fish tank the fish forces to create a thicker slime coat normal. This is not healthy for your fish. The applicant says electrolytes in it, but INFACT not. It's just salt. Electrolytes are replaced when doing a water change. If you are running a carbon filter, the Most of the salt is removed by the filter anyway, why add the salt. It also creates swelling and swim bladder problems in some fish such as gold and silver dollars. Some fish can not handle the salt, even the smallest amount of salt Small amounts safe for a tank does nothing to prevent parasites. High concentrations will kill the parasites off of fish, but not killed. I have deposits of more than 30 years and do not leave any of them for these basic reasons. Not all stores require salt and increasingly are getting away from it. I would suggest adding salt or any other chemical, but / dechlor conditioner to your tank. Your fish will be much happier for it.
