Betta Fish mysterious deaths?
Two of my 8 bettas died mysteriously … I need help. (1) They died very quickly. One day, they were eating like pigs, then the next, not wanting to eat anything and stay in the background. And the next day they died. (2) All my bettas others are happy and well, and treat everyone equally. They have their individual 2 – or 3-liter tanks that are recycled filtered (/ ammonia 0 nitrite reading daily for several weeks). I 50% water change every week. I use filtered water (with Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Filter) with the recommended amount of Electro Right and pH adjusted (pH 7.0). I have the thermostat set at 80F. I feed them mainly Hikari Betta Bio Gold Pellets with freeze-dried brine shrimp and worm released in week one or two times for variety. So do not I am sure what I'm doing wrong. At first I was feeding 5 pellets once a day. Now I do only 3, just because I can not think of anything else could be doing wrong. What's happening?
The most likely died of shock if this happened before after a water change. Already either by temperature or pH can not be sure. You should avoid water changes 50%, and the electrolyte / pH things. Bettas do not need it. They can live in pH ranges 6-8 and 0-25 KH. To the extent that does not undergo rapid changes, or chlorine tap water is good. Each breeder betta know that uses tap experience. As a biologist I'm pretty down on the water treatment that is not absolutely necessary. Add anything to your water is a great risk because there are side effects often are not aware of it. Each 2.3 gallon tanks filtering that you should do 10% weekly water change through a gravel vacuum. As a test I clean my 5 gallon betta tanks for 4 weeks. It was only in the 4 week mark I detected more than a very small amount of nitrate. If you are removing trash from the sand is not necessary to remove the water much. The biological filter will eliminate the ammonia and convert it into nitrates. Nitrates do not accumulate very quickly, and even hardy fish can not take a lot from him. Bettas can be mass quantities.
