help! do fish lay eggs that are fertalized without a male or a man need?
My fish is a swelling of the jaw and is My brother thought that ate the aquarium pebbles under water and grabbed and shook him and these things out and not rocks! were the eggs! will hatch cuz that's only 1 man fish you need to fertalize!
The females of some species of cichlids are fertilized eggs in their mouths until they hatch. It called "mouthbrooders." If there are other fish in the tank, chances are male and fertilized eggs for her. If you have no other fish, is this a new fish? It is possible that eggs had when they brought home from the store. Some of the cichlid eggs take up to three weeks before release (sputum) of the babies. Some species actually will allow the babies in his mouth when there is danger nearby. The females do not lay eggs and pick them up unless they courted seduced by a man and a breeding situation. If it is not too traumatized by rough handling of her brother she can be recognized again and bring to term. Leave her alone and see what happens. Do not add any other fish because they eat the babies if they are carried to term and birth.
