Is hot glue safe to use in an aquarium, not the tank, but in the ornaments?

nope. Please use silicone aquarium for that. which is the very stuff of your tank is stuck with. is available in clear or black (black is best). Do not use normal silicone and solvent because it has some fungicides also got nasty in it. Silicone aquarium has vinegar as a solvent, which is harmless. Aquarium silicone can even harden under water.
