Saltwater Aquarium Live Rock full> Help!?
3 days and worms, etc from the rock have died doing that my water turn smelly and mercy. If I empty the tank and fill it with salt water again? Or is this ment to happen? Help please! : (
It seems that the rock has not been cured completely. When they collect the rock, the rock is left out of the water to allow all the bad things, shrimp, crabs, worms, etc., to fall out of the rock. They maintain the moisture of the rock that maintains the integrity of the rock sound, but any coral sponges, algae on the surface going to die. The rock probably are not cleaned properly and that's what we're seeing now. Depending on how serious is the rock and the amount of rock that has, you might want to take the rock and scrub with a brush again. You can do this while the rock is washed in a sink. Your can use fresh water while the hot temperature and that isn't is just rinse, impregnating the rock. The idea is to scrub and rinse the surface of any dead material that is left in the rock. You want to make a big change to the tank water, 75-90%, if you can. Run the protein skimmer, this will help remove waste water. Monitor frequently, or have a large overflow container as you will have lots of collection. Additional Powerheads can be placed in the tank to increase the flow of water around the rocks. Adding carbon to the filter would not hurt either.
