Aquarium plants, proper care, Bi Available Carbon (CO2), Ferts, substrate, lighting, and more

For healthy plants that are needed;

* Adequate lighting:

4.3 watts per gallon is a VERY basic principle, there is much more that goes into the equation than this. A couple is the spectrum of light and temperature, Photosynthesis takes place in the blue end and even more in the red end of the curve-nm (420 nm and 670 nm blue red). A light bulb in the 5500 – 6700 K range is generally best for plants. The Lux reaching the plants is also important.

For more information on lighting MUCH please see my article "AQUARIUM LIGHTING, Kelvin, nanometers and beyond."

In general about 12 hours a day is best, I recommend using a timer.

* Substrate;

This is supplied with a good foundation of sand and thorough cleaning in order not to disturb this. Roots are symbiotic bacteria that help support the assimilation of nitrate and other processes.

For healthy plants I suggest a substrate of sand mixed with vegetables # 00 Grower azoo bed or the entire ecosystem around 3-5 cm deep with a gravel layer # 3 on top of about 2 cm deep. This combination works well for plant roots, ease of vacuuming the top layer ONLY (where plant roots are), and to improve biological filtration. You can replace Plant azoo Producers in bed with an upper sandy soil (although usually not as good source of iron), preparing the soil thus meet sandy topsoil, add water with a bleach solution to 10 / 1, the mixture for a couple of minutes, then rinse (with a de-chlorinator for first rinse) until the water runs relatively clear. The sand that is left is what is mixed with the roots of your plant, please note that, although a cheap way to go, this "homemade vegetable substrate is not azoo good as producers plant bed or the entire ecosystem.

Transplantation is an important consideration for maintaining healthy aquarium plants.

The medium environment (pH, GH, KH, a mixture of nutrients, light conditions, etc) are not going to be similar in your aquarium at the plant was pulled (without much care I suspect). Extreme shock and sterile gravel will wreak havoc on the initial transplant in the aquarium. This shock can last a long time (this varies depending on the plant, the water environment, and the method of transplantation), after this period the plant will eventually start to grow new leaves and begin to grow.

* Bio Available carbon (CO2) and adequate gas exchange:

surface agitation reasonable when gases such as oxygen and CO2 are added / subtracted from the aquarium (although non-violent agitation). You can add to the bio available carbon and CO2 levels through a product called a CO2 generator, or by powdering some Ammunition carbohydrates (for carbon and iron) into a fine powder and gently with the addition of this fingertip around the plants. The first two methods are effective if.

This is where a lot of misunderstanding, the key is bio available. That is why Excel prosper find a useful product since it is bio-available organic carbon.

More About CO2 Units:

As for CO2 generators, there are many ways to go about this, a DIY, CO2 reactor store bought, or a bottle of CO2 unit, such as Floramat Sanders. For starters I can find the model of Sanders the most foolproof.

I also note that even though they have used CO2 generators, which are not essential (despite the common belief thrown around a few forums of plants), which do is act as a fast forward for plant growth. I'm currently not using in my aquarium with plants, so I'm using are target = "_blank"> azoo Bedding Plant Growers Mar Chem Flourish Excel, and natural waste of fish.

Before that I think against these units, I'm not. I thought disinformation against the pros and cons as well. One argument against these units of CO2 is that CO2 planted tanks are running on is not "natural." These are the same arguments against UV Sterilizers (that I can boldly say I have researched quite extensively). The aquarium is a closed environment and this environment sometimes necessary to use artificial means to achieve certain results, such as strong plant growth with CO2 units or prevention of diseases, Redox healthy, and "natural course" UV sterilizers water. Some plants such as Rotala macrandra are almost impossible to grow without CO2 units. CO2 Units also help with "flattening" of the plants growing in the aquarium to the contrary some plants grow only to the surface with fine mother to look for CO2 in the air (even shake good and Mar Chem Flourish Excel will help here as well.)

Of coarse there are dangers, and to spread too much CO2 in the aquarium, which can be dangerous to fish, such as levels above 25 ppm should be avoided!

You can calculate the levels of CO2 (which can only be controlled by adding or subtracting CO2 produced by your unit of CO2, or pH kH not) using the following formula:

CO2 (ppm) = 3 times KH (measured in degrees of carbonate hardness is not ONLY Phosphates!) Play deviation by a factor of 10 (low + / – above) are a pH of 7.0. Example: a KH of 1 with a pH of 6.0 would produce a CO2 level of 30 (1 * 3 * 10 = 30). A KH of 1 with a pH of 8.0 there is a CO2 level of 0.3 (1 * 3 * 0.10 = 0.3)

To convert KH; 17.9 ppm = 1 dKH.

* Ferts adequate nutrients "

Plant nutrients are nitrogen and phosphorus from food and fish waste and potassium that is added through the addition of ferts. Some trace elements and iron in very

small amounts can help. The fertilizer can be added to the substrate, water

or both things. Another nutrient, carbon comes from CO2 in the atmosphere (again I prefer Sea Chem Flourish Excel).

You will need a level of 15-40 ppm nitrate, iron (better on the floor, where the laterite help), Low phosphate levels to help plants compete better with algae, and many more trace elements must be present from fish waste with a proper diet.

Some other nutrients can be supplied by products such as plant here or in the case of trace elements, Wonder Shells.

* Other factors:

-Good water circulation is important for the exchange of gases (CO2, oxygen). Water circulation is also useful to avoid stagnation points.

"I also recommend eating fish to control algae algae inevitable. Otos recommend small tanks or community or larger aquarium Plecostomus.

-A pH of between 6.5 and 7.8 best works in my opinion.
