How do I add more lighting to 29g Tank?
I just got a kit from Marineland, 29 gallons of Pet Supermarket. There is a bell included, but does not meet the lighting requirements needed for a planted aquarium ,2-3watts per gallon. What are some brand names trusted? What parts would be me looking to buy to increase my lighting for atleast 60w.? Any help is greatly appreciated, TY.
"Watts per gallon" is a pathetic excuse of a "standard", the couple inches of "fish per gallon of water" idea. Actually, totally dependent on the light bulbs are using. With the high production of T-5, you could probably get away with about 30 watts on your tank, as you probably want about 60 watts compact fluorescent lamps or standard fluorescent tubes. If you can get any T-5 strip double, or HO (high performance) or VHO (very high output) T-5 Strip, go ahead – the brand is not very important. If you do not want to spend that much money, consider buying an incandescent hood, replacing incandescent bulbs by compact fluorescent shop for home improvements. The last thing to consider is the lighting of the shop somewhere like Home Depot. Try 6,000-6,200 bulbs K with the peak emissions in the red and blue spectrum, as this is optimum for photosynthesis.
