Questions about the 20 gallon aquarium?

I'm looking at an upgrade to a 20 gallon tank. But I have a couple of questions. Which is better to get a 20 gallon filter or filters of two 10 gallon? What filter do you recommend and why? (Also if the deposit of sand will have to makes a difference) I have also seen glass tops for aquariums that are much cheaper than the hood …. Why is this? Are they better or worse after bells? Can I still use a filter / air pump etc? Besides, what happens to the illumination by using a bell jar? Hope you can help. Let know if I have to put more information.

Filters – Get a 30gal or 2 x 20gal filters if you are going to fully experience the actions of the tank. If you already have a small filter, as the new tank, then a 20 + 10? would be great. A hang on back filter with a bio-wheel is probably best for this type of tank. But that depends of how the cap will fit. A simple glass sheet is fine for a cover, but can interfere with some filters. In that case, get a good internal filter (cheaper) or a small external canister (good but expensive) glass countertops very well, you can only provide a light unit on top of the crystal that shines through. I actually prefer the glass because it keeps any condensation in the tank. With a hood you can get condensation inside the bell and wreaking havoc. Get the corner glass top cut to airlines and power cords can still enter the tank. Ian
