How to clean aquarium with large ground covering plants? Can you still use a siphon?
How do I clean a tank that has a lot plant? I'm talking about tanks like this: http://www.rockymountaindiscus.com/images/drwatson.jpg where plants completely cover the substrate. Do you use gravel siphon? Under a filter substrate? How do remove fish waste from the tanks? I'm thinking of getting some ground cover plants my aquarium (photo: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/Okiimiru/August18th2009026.jpg), but before I want to know how to maintain them.
You can simply "skim" slightly above them with a siphon tube which has a narrower (more suction speed) or use a small diameter hose (including air line pipe) "bands" to stick to "target clean." Usually the plants must use the waste thinner and larger Waste is often a bit buoyant (depends on what you feed the fish a little) to exercise a little above should suction lift. Depending on the fish, shrimp Amano and Cherry do a good job at around the vegetation.
