Types of saltwater aquarium

So you've decided to finally "take the plunge" and start your own saltwater aquarium, but how do you decide what type of fish tank to create? There are three ways to set up a saltwater aquarium: only fish, fish only with live rock and reef tank.

Only fish

A tank of saltwater fish only the most affordable option out of the three, it does not require a lighting expensive. This type of aquarium, however, is not the easiest to assemble. The setup may take a long time while waiting for the nitrogen cycle to the end and maintaining a nuisance, as the tank needs more frequent cleaning. No live rock in the aquarium, the less filtering occurs and you have to change water on a consistent basis to remove excess nitrates from water.

As you've probably already guessed, a single fish tank is only for fish, although it is possible to add some other creatures to the mix, such as snails and hermit crabs, if you want to have more diversity in your saltwater aquarium and more efficient control of algae.

A single fish aquarium can be a community tank or a tank semi-aggressive. A tank contains the community fish that work well together, while a semi-aggressive tank is home to one fish of a variety of different species. In most cases, however, is a good idea adhere to the same species in a tank.

Only live fish Rock

This type of aquarium is exactly the same as the fish tank only exception of live rock and overhead lighting. Live rock is making a comeback due to its natural filtration, which is the best way to keep a saltwater aquarium clean and safe for your fish. The organisms living in and on the rock contribute to the filtration process and aid in the nitrogen cycle. Less nitrates accumulate in the tank due to the porous nature of the rock filters out of the water.

Despite the live rock is an outstanding set of biological filtration your saltwater aquarium that will still require maintenance and frequent water changes. Add iodine, calcium, strontium, magnesium and other minerals on a regular basis to maintain safe water.

Fiji is the most direct rock rock you can get, but it is also the most expensive (Live rock is not cheap). Usually, an aquarium rock vivo requires 1-2 pounds of live rock per aquarium gallon. Rock prices vary by region.

The rock also provides food for fish.

Reef tanks

reef tanks are perfect for invertebrates, corals and anemones. Most of the people creating this type of tank reef maintenance – If there are fish in the tank are not the main attraction.

This is an expensive type of aquarium keeping, such as invertebrates, corals, sea anemones and it's hard to maintain.

Only experienced aquarists setting up a reef aquarium as it can be difficult to maintain. You have to maintain excellent water, make use of expensive lighting, the use of reverse osmosis or deionized water, add supplements, and the purchase of live rock for filtration.
