The Florida Aquarium

The Florida Aquarium is probably one of the best aquariums in Florida. Has been ranked by parents Magazine as one of the five Children's first aquarium.

This large tank is composed of more than 200,000 square feet of exhibits and nearly 20,000 aquatic plants and animals around the world, including Florida.

Recognized by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the Florida Aquarium is located in the Channelside District of Tampa. Opened its doors in 1995 and welcomed last year around 675,000 visitors a year.  

Galleries and Exhibitions

The aquarium itself is divided into four "galleries" with many exhibitions in each of the galleries. Each gallery has a different theme for your enjoyment.

Wetlands – this section of the Florida Aquarium is oriented. Here visitors can explore the fish, animals and birds in the marshes of the state, streams, rivers, marshes and mangroves. Children will love the lovely river otters and alligators to be impressed by.

Bays and Beaches – visitor Photo Gallery have the opportunity to observe marine life typical of nearby Tampa Bay. Exhibits show what is at the bottom of the bay, so like fish that tend to attract anglers from the area, as bass. Beach screen presents a cross section of marine life found in a typical Florida beach.

The Coral Reef – Photo Gallery color located near the waters of the Florida Keys with a look at the marine life that inhabits the formations Dry Tortugas coral near the Keys. Guests can walk in a virtual tunnel to see what is inside a cave of coral or look through the picture window and see one of several shows daily diving out on the site. Visitors will also want to check out the coral farm, where biologists experiment with techniques on coral reproduction.

Ocean Commotion – new gallery Florida Aquarium, Ocean Commotion invites visitors to explore the depths of the oceans the world. More than a practical and interactive in the gallery, children can pick up the phone and learn about his favorite creature and even play with a dolphin virtual.

Several additional exhibits and also emphasizes leisure and entertainment and educated as they make their way through this excellent service. They include:

Aquariumania – this fun exhibition tells guests how to go about creating your own home aquarium at home and educates them about the fish farms in Florida, they grow 95 percent of all aquarium fish grown in the U.S.

Dragons Down Under – part of the Gallery Coral Reef, this exhibition offers the opportunity to see real dragons of South Australia sea fascinating dwarf seahorses, which are native to Florida. Absolutely awesome!

No Bone Zone – geared toward younger children, this section focuses on aquarium invertebrates. The piece de resistance for small hands is the contact tank, but is there is also a supplement with 400-gallon tank over boneless sea creatures. Children also love going in and out of human rights in size shells hermit crab.

Year of the Frog – shows not one but four outline the plight of the frog with the hope of encouraging the conservation of amphibians. Visitors will see native Florida frogs and their sisters and brothers around the world.

Activities

No is bored at the Florida Aquarium. Apart from the galleries and exhibitions, there are plenty of activities planned and additional attractions to keep visitors of all ages busy.

Explore a land – two acres in size, this outdoor water area offers plenty of space for children to run and cool. With slides, geysers, water guns, and more, the Explore Shore is a welcome break for the kids with short attention spans.

Penguin Promenade – a couple of times each day, guests can get up close and personal with penguins residents, as through a red carpet ride full of visitors anxious. Each customer must sit quietly around the carpet like penguins travel through, often stopping to greet visitors.

Behind Scenes of the Tour – these fascinating tours of hours will take guests to the parties of the aquarium that otherwise can not be explored, such as quarantine areas and kitchen which prepares meals for all residents of the Florida Aquarium.

Diving with sharks – dive certificate of age and up to 15 divers are invited to experience close encounters of the shark tank, hoping to dispel the myth that sharks eat man. dive masters accompany each diver. A fee is charged and reservations are suggested.

Dolphins Ecotours – climb aboard the Bay Spirit, a 49-foot catamaran for a 90-minute tour to see Tampa

Bay bottlenose dolphins. Ecotours run daily, with additional visits available during the weekends. Prices are very reasonable and reservations are recommended.
