General Care for the Freshwater Aquarium

Well, so has decided he wants to own an aquarium. It's a good idea to make a wish list before buy any fish for the aquarium. Keeping an aquarium will require patience. Unfortunately, it is unrealistic to go to the pet store and I get to pick up the fish. Take a trip to the pet store to gather information and shop window to determine the types of fish you want to keep in your aquarium. Carefully research these fish to ensure that are compatible for water temperature and pH, and the food they eat. Be careful not to prey and predator together in the same tank. Note that the freshwater fish are more resistant than the marine variety, and be less susceptible to fluctuations in water.

One reason that freshwater fish are more resistant than salt water fish is very salty water. Like any living thing, the body of a fish needs water to function properly. Water is absorbed through the skin of a freshwater fish in the environment. Moreover, salt water fish actually has salt water to drink, as fluids are extracted through the skin by osmosis. Salt is excreted as urine is highly concentrated. Freshwater fish are a good choice for an inexperienced aquarium owner because there is more leeway in the statement of water. Some freshwater fish have a variation of up to ten degrees of water temperature acceptable. By contrast, most tropical fish allows only two degrees of variation in water temperature is not uncommon for the novice fish keeper easily discouraged. Water conditions are difficult to regulate and fish unfortunately, even the variety freshwater are not the hardiest of creatures. Sometimes they do not survive these fluctuations. It is important to be patient. An aquarium needs to run for a minimum twenty-four hours before adding fish. You may want to allow the tank to run and filter with decorations and any plant life for a few days before introducing fish. Be sure to clean the decorations and the substrate before adding any funds to the aquarium. Living plants are highly recommended in new aquariums as they will help to generate the good bacteria needed to reduce the amount of ammonia in the tank. It's a good idea to test the ammonia and nitrite levels before adding fish in the aquarium. Start to add only two or three small fish. A general rule is to wait another thirty days before adding additional fish, because that is the incubation period majority of fish diseases. Furthermore, the test for nitrites and ammonia levels before adding these additional fish. Ammonia levels should return to zero. This also takes about a month.

There are some basic tips to keep the fish healthy. Do not over feed the fish. Any excess food become debris in the tank, and then converted to ammonia which is toxic to fish. Change the water in the aquarium regularly. Replace approximately one third water in the tank every two or three weeks. This will minimize the disruption of fish in the aquarium, eliminating the need to remove the fish from the tank. Finally, do not forget to clean the filter. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, as some filters need to be replaced more frequently than other
