aquarium co2 system
Aquarium database system. Basically, if you know how to work aquariums. That's it!?

I am creating a database system (using MS Access 2003) for an aquarium. So I want to know how they work. Large aquariums with many types of fish, not the lil fish tank systems. I have taken these things into consideration: + Number / Type of Fish + Tanks / Location | Name | Type | CO2 Levels | pressure | Minerals | Temp | Food Equipment used + + Stock / Supplies | Power | Waste | Chemicals for water balance nutrients + Personnel assigned to food or health screenings. These are some of the ideas, but I was wondering if there is something else to consider. Also if anyone knows how I structure my database that would be useful. Any response is Related accepted ~ Even if it's short! Thanks

In addition to the parameters you have, you can also include the ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, pH, dH, salinity and oxygen levels (these are the factors that usually cause the biggest problems with the health of fish). Also might want to look at life plants, algae, corals, housing and skins, tank size, chlorine, chloramines, filters, filters, pumps, tidal, heaters, coolers, lighting and décor. As for the structuring of the database, how the structure that depends on what your goal. Think about the kind of reports are to write – you wish to print reports based on aquarium depending on the type of fish? Or do you want to print a report based on staff? If you want flexibility to several reports, will be easier in the long run to make the table smaller and more concise. Example – make a table with fields for general aquarium the name of the aquarium, the aquarium's location and the number or name of the tanks that have. Make an independent staffing fields for the name of the officer, working in the aquarium, etc. Make a separate table for tanks with fields for the type of fish you have, how many fish, a member of staff responsible and perhaps a table Separate terms with the fields to which date the data was taken the tank, the fields of the various parameters – such as levels of nitrites, etc. You can also create a table of fish with the type of fish, water quality ranges for different parameters, etc. Create table relationships that link them. Then you can run queries to create the exact reports you want or to make it easier to enter data (for example – can create a form with the table of tanks — and a subform in it for the conditions.) If you want to be able to perform calculations on data, be careful what you choose for your type of field. Many calculations can run in fields are the "text" type. If you want to save calculations as data instead of running them every time you print a report or see a form – Make sure you have fields in the table of results, then write a macro or event procedure to copy and paste the calculation into the field on a form. I have not worked with Access 2003 (we use 2000) and 2000 lets you write macros in the tables – you have to do in ways – but maybe 2003 has changed this. Definitely begin by deciding how they want to "work" the database before creating it. The answer to that question will determine how to structure the entire database. Good lucky!
