How do I make my 12 gallon eclipse aquarium ready for fish?
This is a brand new tank and I filled it with water and gravel. The aquarium is with the conditioner, I have already added and has been working for over 24 hours now. What is the next step? I can add the fish now?
The next step is to cycle your tank. You have two options and despite what you may hear, both working. You can do a fishless cycle, in which case it will remain the empty tank and add ammonia to yourself until it completes a cycle. You can use food fish, pieces of shrimp or other meat, or the fastest and cleaner, buy yourself a bottle of ammonia without soap added to it. Research "fishless cycling" and you'll find a number of ways do so. The second way is simply to get fish and the cycle with them. The importance of this method is that you start with a very small number of fish, only a pair of small to start, so the ammonia levels will not rise beyond what the fish can handle. This method can also be patient, because it will not add new fish for a month. Then you start adding fish slowly, only a few at a time. Many people argue that the fish harmed by this method outdated, but provided no rush, it remains safe. And of course, do not forget to tell you how to beat the full cycle – You just add live bacteria to your filter. The bacteria reside in the gravel and filters of any tank set up, so if you can buy a bunch of it (the store Fish can help), then this is it. Bottled Bacteria, some brands that help, others do not do much at all, but do not come close to reality, adding of fresh and healthy bacteria directly from another tank. And, of course, must have a plan for what fish you want, making sure none gets more than 3 inches fully developed (they need space to live and swim after all.) Once you do, you can decorate the tank to accommodate them (the community of smaller fish suitable for this tank, like plants, and the inhabitants of the bottom like the caves).
